69 GMC C20 Core support repair or replace

My current core support is rusted out on both sides as the truck came with dual batteries. The main mounting points are pretty bad also but the top 2/3 of the core support is in good condition. My question is basically is it better to get a cheaper Chevy core support and cut the bottom off and weld it to my current one or should I drop the extra cash and get the GMC specific one from GMC Pauls and just swap it out.

I have heard that the reproduction ones dont fit as well but I dont know where specifically the issues with the fit are.

Since the bottom of the core support is the same I think it could work but it might not be worth the work if the reproduction one is a good fit.

Has anyone here welded 2 core supports together to make one good one?? I was thinking I could cut it right at the bottom of the opening for the radiator to make the cuts shorter??
