2007 2500HD axles Under 72?
So to keep a long story fairly short, I own two trucks. - 72 C20 and a 2007 Silverado 2500HD with a Vortec 6.0L LQ9. A month ago a tire blew when I was on the interstate, I fishtailed then the truck grabbed and sent me flying off the road and I proceeded to roll 4 or 5 times. Luckily, I walked away without a bruise or a scratch and felt totally fine the next day. The truck however isn’t being covered by my insurance. Since I need an engine for my 72, I’m going to do a swap since I’ve checked all the mechanicals out and confirmed that it looks good (plus the truck was still running when I stopped rolling ).
Since my 07 is a 4x4 and my 72 is 4x2, would it be possible to take the axles off of my 07 and put them under my 72 to do a 4x4 conversion? Or should I just locate and buy an original front axle and do the swap that way? Since I’m not going to have buy an engine or transmission now, I’m saving a lot of money and some time and I’d like to reinvest it. Final option would be to buy a truck that is already a 4x4 and swap body parts as needed and to do the engine swap but I’m afraid that my wife might literally kill me so I’m trying to use what I have first. Any advice would be greats guys. Thanks!
