Removing Heads

Can I remove the heads off my 350 SBC without having to pull the engine? The heads are pretty close to the firewall, and I don't want to get half way through the job only to find out that I have no access to the rear head bolts. BTW, its a 72 K5, 350 TH tranny, 205 t-case (in case there is a difference in engine location between auto and manual models). Thanks in advance.
