drop spindle

i just bought a set of mcgaughys drop spindles for my 67 c10, when i started to tighten the top ball joint the upper control arm started to hit the top of the spindle and started to lift the control arm as i was tightening. i know there is no load on the suspension but i didnt think it would hit like it is doing.

has anyone else had this problem? do i need to grind a bit away from my upper control arms for these spindles to fit? here is a picture of what i am talking about,
