clutch job gone wrong......
ok on sunday i pulled the tranny out of my 84 gmc 3/4 truck. it has the 454 in it.....it came out easy, an fast. only took about an hour to get it out.....this is the first clutch i have ever done...
anyway this is the problem...when i removed the clutch, the pilot bushing fell out on its own..my freind says he has never seen this happen, an every body else we asked has never heard of this happening either.. now i went to reinstall the new clutch yesterday, the new bushing slips right in with my finger..my friend stopped me from going any farther, siad there was a problem because he has never had one do this, that it should have to be pressed in. (big hammer)....i looked at a pilot bearing that is for my truck an it is just a tad smaller than the bushing..how can i get this fixed without yanking the motor to put in a new crank....has anybody else had this problem, is it a problem. i hope this is why the tranny has been making all the niose it has since i bought the truck..im gonna take a chance an reuse the same tranny instead of swapping it out like i had planned.....
