Tire load index # for 2005 Sierra?

I tried to get a nail hole patched at America's Tires locally and was turned away because, according to him, the 106 load index tires on my truck are unsafe for my vehicle and that it calls for a 108 load index tire. I came home and searched the internet trying to find a minimum load index # or any O.E.M. # for my truck and come up empty. It's not on the door jam either, just size and pressures. Where can I get this info? Also if this is some law/rule that they are following I would like to see it in writing someplace.
