Clutch rod help

Morning

the wingnut spacer on my truck broke and scattered, i bought a new rod , spacer and nuts, now my question

i figured out the wingnut spacer sets top to bottom in a groove in the transmission lever, but theres alot of space behind the lever before the nut on the back of the rod, should there be a spacer (washers) or something or is this normal, i do have the wingnut spacer in front of the transmission lever butts up against the bell shaped part of the clutch rod, (should it be behind ?)

1972 c10, 350/4 bolt, 4 speed

sorry, new phone wont upload pictures

any help appreciated

Thank You
