1954 Chev 3100 235 Valve Adjustment

Question about the 1954 Chev 235 Valve adjustment procedure.
The 1954 shop manual says heat up the engine, lubricate valve stems, adjust valves.

Other information I have found indicates heat up engine, Place #1 cylinder to TDC, then from front to back adjust valves 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 9. Use your feeler gauges to set the clearance of 1, 5 and 9 to .018”. Set the clearance on 2, 3 and 7 to .006”.
Rotate until BB lines up with pointer again, then set 4, 8 and 12 to .018”. Set 6, 10 and 11 to .006”.

Which is the correct method?
I'm assuming my 235 has solid lifters (stock engine)
Engine #0805600 F54X
Block cast # 3701481 , 3702436,3835911
Head # 3835913
