Water pumps and pulleys???

So I'm getting my engine together and it's balancer, pulley and water pump time. I have a original truck 327 here as well still assembled so I am using it as a guide. So I put my balancer on to the exact same spot as my original and the bottom pulleys center the belt in the same spot on both engines. Now I bolt on my water pump and pulley, same pulleys from the truck (was disassembled when I got it). I measured the water pump at 5 5/8" from base to pulley mount. Not sure why but they are out 1/4" almost. Has anyone pressed the pulley mount plate back on the shaft of the pump? The pulley will get closer to the body that way.
