Installing door seals

I was about to get the 3m weatherstrip out to do the new door seals, and figured I would ask the best way or best place to start schmooking? I know how to do it by starting at that sharp corner and get going, but Im curious as to the amount of 3m I would be using up. 15 bucks a tube! I'm used to these seals having the wind lace attached where you could get away without any adhesive by pinching the wind lace tighter. But the new stuff isn't that way. I expect this new cheap stuff will need to be replaced a lot sooner than normal and don't want to rip too much paint off then.

Should I just adhere the new seal on the back side (interior side)? The front and backside? Or just the bottom of the edge where it bends over the metal? It does not bend, but it might get my point across saying it that way.

Thank you
