Re using stock seat covers?

I have two short benches, burb and blazer style. Both have the white vinyl with blue highlander inserts. They are pretty filthy overall but I feel they could clean up nicely. One though has a tear in the back panel about five inches or so long. The other one has no imperfections Ive found, I have not fine tooth combed it though.

If I can carefully take these covers off can they be reused, or will they be too old and probably brittle?

Has anyone done this before? I don't recall seeing a thread on actually taking a good original one off and reinstalling on another seat.
