Chasing steering slop
I recently upgraded the steering components in my 1988 Chevrolet V30. It currently has:
- New Redhead steering box - New PSC power steering pump - New Jeep XJ steering shaft - Crossover steering I have adjusted the sector shaft to where it needs to be on my setup, however I still have just a little bit of slop in the steering wheel before I get to a point of positive response from the steering. I am trying to chase down where the slop is and had my wife go back and forth on the steering wheel while I clamped down the pitman arm to prevent it from moving. It appears the slop in from the steering box back to the steering wheel. My next test is to clamp the steering shaft and try to keep that constant while she moves the wheel, but has anyone else been in this situation and found other locations where the slop could exist? Bearings?
