New Shop for Scott

We decided last summer to build a "retirement" home out east a bit on 5 acres. The builder just poured the foundation this week so we're about 4 months out for the house to be done, depending on weather. It'll be a 2500 sqft 3 bedroom ranch with a 3 car 24' x 36' garage and a full unfinished basement. The pics are the house foundation and the mountain is Pikes Peak about 60 miles away in Colorado Springs. That's the view from the back of the house.

I'm also looking at a detached garage and met with a good, local builder (he has a '53 Ford truck but it has Chevy running gear so he's mostly OK) this morning to walk the lot. I do not want a giant building with a door on one end for a humongous John Deere combine or a semi-truck (LOVE your shop Doug but I don't live on a farm or have giant equipment!) , I really just want a good sized, garage style structure that looks a lot like a bigger garage, so he's estimating out a 30' x 50' building, ~10' walls and ceiling height, with one bay set up with 12' ceiling and thickened floor for a 2 post lift.

It'll have a standard concrete foundation (vs something like a pole barn), 2" X 6" stick framed walls, trusses and fiberglass shingle roof, hardy plank siding and a short fake rock facing ~3 feet up the front side (have to match the house in materials, building style and paint), a couple of 8' x 16' standard insulated garage doors evenly spaced on the long side, and most likely be set up for radiant floor heating with insulation under the slab and plastic pipe run in the concrete. One short side will face due south straight at the mountain so I'll have a single rollup door there to open on a small seating area and enjoy the view.

Phase 1 is the foundation and structure with a 125 amp panel, one light, one receptacle, no insulation, no drywall.

After we recover from the move and all the misc stuff that comes with a new place, I can work on the rest and get it finished up. That's the plan so far.
