Yes they do connect and yes there is an opening between them. The advantage of the "X" pipe over the "H" pipe it's the ability to scavenge is better. The "H" pipe tends to creat turbulance at higher RPM due to the fact it causes the gasses between the two sides to flow perpendicular to the natural flow of the exhaust. The "X" pipe however keeps everything flowing in the same direction, increasing it's abillity to scavenge. Especially at higher RPMs. WES
