Best way to repair Threads

Removed the old broken Reverse switch on the NP435 trans, the threads boogered taking the thing out, Now I will have to repair the threads to put the new one in..
Should I remove the shift tower top cover and weld it and re tap threads? or helicoil and seal it up?
