Correct installation of inner fender brace?

Not sure which way this brace is supposed to be installed. The impressions in the paint suggest that the larger edge was facing up. But this causes the alternator cable to run directly across it, which doesn't make sense. Unless, of course, the alternator cable is routed incorrectly... The brace doesn't fit as well if it's flipped over.

The alternator cable has a anchor pin that goes nicely in a hole in the inner fender (just off of picture left). There's a hole in the frame that it might could be moved to, but then the cable has a lot of excess between the anchor and the alternator.

I didn't take it apart, so not sure how it's supposed to go back together correctly. Unfortunately, in either case, the aftermarket inner fender bolt holes don't line up with the brace, so there's going to have to be a little rework done.
