Cool Shift Indicator

My shift indicator housing is broken. The tab that attaches it to steering column broke and the thing won't stay put.
But more interestring is the wire that leads to the small plastic clear (Red)
part should have light ???????Nothing there almost looks like the end of a fiber optic.
What it is?? How can I fix it?
Chris
