LS Alternator Wiring Questions

I installed the harness in my swap today and was cutting back some of the stock wiring from the alternator and had a couple questions I'm hoping someone smarter than me can answer...

1. What does the brown wire off the alternator go to on the firewall and can I eliminate this completely or will it steal power from something somewhere else in the system?

2. Can I extend the power wire off the LS alternator to where the red wire from the SBC alternator went and eliminate the red "battery" box on the engine? I'm keeping my battery on the passenger side and doing that would keep the power flowing to the battery through the stock circuit I think. Just don't know if the amp rating of the LS alternator will fry anything.
