1990 GMC Jimmy - Chalet update.
Haven't been around the board in for ever so i thought i'd post a few pictures of my slow going project.
My Factory 76 Chalet was rotted out. She gave me many years of good times but the rot is not worth wasting a ton of cash to fix it...nor do i have a place to call home so everything has to be farmed out. So...why not swap the camper over to my LS swapped 1990 Jimmy and build my dream. So...the Chalet went off to a fiberglass shop to address a few Chalet issues that i wanted to cure. I had the front windows glassed in as no matter what..they will leak. Side windows being ancient as well were replaced with modern square windows. Rear door was replaced since the oem Chinook door was long past done and we had repaired it many times over the years. I filled most if not all the appliance holes on the outside and then had it sprayed with a closely matching bed liner material. From there she was transfered over to the Jimmy. From there she went to my buddy's shop for a lot of little repairs such as water pump...transfer rear bumper over. Re arch rear springs to get rid of the lean caused by 2 full jerry cans and a host of other stuff i am sure my crs is preventing me from articulating. The most recent upgrade was a custom antirock rear sway bar by Roberts Custom Trucks in SoCaL. She is a big girl and requires sway bars. Roberts is going to design something so we can have possibly another antirock sway bar up front. With xover steering it makes that kinda fun to do but not impossible to do. Next up is the camper build which will be a custom job since i gutted the camper save the oem seats and overhead bunks. Everything was 40 plus years old and well...done. Currently waiting on a call from a guy who can rebuild the top and replace the canvas...one step closer. Anyways the basic specs on said jimmy are: 6.0L -4L80e - NP241c - 8 lug front 10B with moly shafts...4.88 gears and an ARB air locker with PSC complete hydro assist to include gearbox. Rear is a 14B with 4.88's - disc brakes and a matching arb locker. 2004 tahoe cloth front seats. Retro Sound Newport radio - dakota digital gauges - tuffy console with custom winters shifter mount and of course winters shifter. Pics:
