If Open Window = Armrest, what next?

We've all seen it...our trucks have steel right under the window felts down to the insert, and after years of 2-60 air conditioning, the sweat from hanging your elbow out the window has eaten away the paint, and let the metal get rusted if it goes too long.

So what paint or other treatment have ya'll used to fix the problem?
