Fillin the gas tank

Just thought I'd share: I, like many others with 73-87's, have problems filling my gas tank correctly. On both my truck its always taken me sitting there holding the filler the entire time, just just the tip in and pointed strait down as much as possable. Such a pain.

The other day my friend put the filler in, only puts the tip in, but then leaves it hanging and puts it on auto easy pump. Not only did it pump, but it let the truck take almost 2 gallons more then it ever has.

Anyone else have some neat trick to get it to fill easier? Anyone know why our trucks are like this?
