Steering column Blues

Hi everybody Happy New Year I got a question regarding steering columns maybe two questions, have anybody ever taken the key and shift components out of a steering column? My 67 came with a S10 steering column in it that has key and shift on it I want to go back to dash key and floor shift. Am I wasting my time with this steering column?Or can something be done with this steering column.
Thanks to this covid-19 bull**** I've since lost my job and trying to continue my build on a budget any help would be much appreciated
