Isn't that expecting a bit much from GM? I still remember driving an early 80s Chevy rental car that would "shift and shudder" at around 45 mph. At the time I thought it was just an overly tall axle ratio, but it was probably a combo of shifting in to 4th and locking the converter at the same time. Very crude ways to achieve higher EPA estimates back then.
At that time, I owned a mid-70's Buick Regal with a TH350, and it was a breath of fresh air compared to the early 80s crap.
