upper molding

My upper molding was about to fall off of my 71 C10 due to poor adhesive clips. So I got a set of push in and bolt on clips. When I looked at the trim before removing I noticed that it was low at the rear of the bed. I was planning to correct it. Unfortunately, there are factory holes directly behind this trim! It is like this on both sides. It is 1" lower at the rear of the bed vs the front. Of course now I notice it every time I look at the truck. I would think the factory meant for the trim to be a straight line from front fender to back of bed? Mine has a noticeable angle beginning at the cab/bed junction. How is this trim supposed to look? TIA

PS> My body lines all line up cab to bed.
