Another Washer Pump Question

Okay guys........I ordered one of the new washer pumps and saw the other tread on how these things are different from the original ones. I made the spacer and installed it and to my surprise is was not working at all. I took this thing off and tried to figure out how it is suppose to work. I re-installed it so the the cam that turns constantly on the wiper motor engages with the level on the back of the housing now. Needless to say, this sucker is working now, however all the time. I don't even have to push to switch at all. I need some help with this one for sure. Can someone tell me what the problem is now. I thought this was going to be a simple install so that I can move on to the other things that need to be done. How is this thing suppose to really work? Also, I'm testing this thing with the cover off, so I don't know if that would affect the way it is suppose to work by using the switch to activate the fluid when you need it.
