56 Heater Hose routings
So in the process of rebuilding the 235 for my '56 3600 pickup and am trying to remember which heater hose fittings go to which port and wishing I had taken better pictures during disassembly. I've looked at the assembly manual and it doesn't outline the heater hoses or the fittings used. The parts manual and tri-five car manuals show this much better and from what I can see is in 55 and 56 both hoses were 5/8" but in '57 they began using 3/4" and 5/8". So this would explain why my heater core has both 5/8" inlet/outlets. Anyway- after looking at the GM parts catalogs and service manuals it looks like both hose fittings on the engine are 5/8" but there is a long and a short fitting. I'm 95% sure the long fitting goes to the water pump and the short goes to the thermostat housing. The fitting in the thermostat housing would also have 3/8" NPT threads while the '57 and newer had 1/2" NPT threads. Then the heater hoses are routed (looking at the firewall, standing in front of the truck) from the thermostat housing to the right side of the heater core and the water pump would go to the left side of the heater core. Does anyone have a good picture to confirm the hose routing, fittings and sizes?
