Wiring floor shift reverse lights

For those who have gone from a 3 on the tree to a 4 or 5 speed floor shift…how did you handle the reverse light wiring? I’m looking heavily at the new Tremec TKX and noticed kits for our trucks come with the reverse light switch and what appears to be a bare wire “pigtail” on the end.
Are you supposed to tap this pigtail in to the wires in the rear light harness under the truck? Or run it in the interior under the carpet to where it plugs into the bottom of the steering column? Does anyone make a factory gm connector to put on the Tremec switch pigtail where this could be plug and play?
