Aftermarket universal tilt install

Hey everyone I'm working on a guys 72 k5 blazer. He bought a chrome universal aftermarket tilt column. He wants me to disassemble the pot joint on the factory intermediate shaft and cut the end of the shaft off and slide it into the 3/4" double d shaft at the end of the steering column. I havent really looked into the actual fitment of these two parts. But it seems like it might work. Obviously I would drill and thru bolt the 2 pieces together. But will this work with operating angles and what not? The steering gear box end still has the factory rag joint attached to the intermediate shaft. Or does he need to bite the bullet and get a steering u joint and intermediate shaft assembly? He already has the steering column sitting there in the truck so he wont want to buy a different column.
