Anybody had any luck removing this black tar like substance that is on the fire wall? (highlighted by the yellow arrows).

I saw somebody once removing the rubberized mat boards on the inside by freezing it with something like Freon? They froze it and then lightly tapped is with a hammer and it just shattered,
