Was driving my 68 from Houston to Virginia Beach to get to my new duty station. Left at the last possible moment. Truck died about a mile from where I needed to check in. It was pooring down raining, I had to walk around in the rain for about 15 minutes before I found someone who had some jumper cables to give me a jump start (the alternator had gone out). Well as soon as I hooked the cables to my battery a huge bolt of lightning went flying out of my ears. I stood there for a few seconds frying my butt off. I actually melted the rubber from the cables to my hands. Man that hurt!
