Ft Worth Texas truck people

Morning everybody.
Long story
I have a question for the Ft Worth/White settlement area people. My story is this. My son accepted a job with Lockheed working on planes. He packed up his California only 1998 Chevy Z71 and moved to White Settlement/Ft worth. He started his job but on the second week there his rear diff gave up the ghost. He took it to a shop and they want $1500 to swap out with a used one? Not even sure that they opened it up. My son is big brain (hence the aerospace engineering degree) and excels at the wiring issues and loves tracking shorting wires. I am the gearhead. We now need to figure a way to either get the rear end pulled or tow it to another shop. Being in California not like I can do anything. Any recommendations with shops out in that direction.
Thanks for your patience with this long story.
