Doing away with engine harness connector - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

I'm fed up with trying to restore the brittle engine harness on my 66, and need to add a couple wires anyway.
I cut the original grommet and pushed the female harness back into the cab.
There is enough wire length to crimp on spade lugs, to mate with lugs on the new engine wiring.
I'm thinking of tacking a big washer with a 5/8 hole behind the original connector hole, fit a grommet, and pull the new wire through, with enough tape to seal.
Anyone have a better idea?
