Steering column rebuild kit, anyone make them?

One last question regarding a foam seal that is on the lower end of the shift tube. It's about to fall apart. Haven't tried to pull it off yet. Has anyone found any replacements for this? What' the downside of removing and not replacing?

That’s a grease seal and should be made of thick felt. You can buy felt at a fabric store and replace your felt seal easily. Just coil the new felt around that same area until the diameter builds up to be the same as the ID of the tube. Then add grease to the felt to get it saturated. That will create a seal that keeps trash out trash.
