Question Door Stuff and Transmission Nonsense

I'm looking for some help. I have recently purchased a 1972 Chevrolet C-10, 427 cu.in. which was restored 4-6 years ago. The door locks work (both key and manual depression) when the door is open but not when the door is closed. The linkages appear tight, the doors close well, they just won't lock.

What amount of travel should the carburator have before the transmission kickdown linkage is engaged?

Also seeking input on some spray sound deadener for the doors.

Any comments would be appreciated.
