cruise control from other cars/years

I have a 1972 C3500 with a 402 and manual trans.

I went to a junkyard a while back and there was a 1983 El Camino with a full CC setup, with the controls on the column turn signal lever.

I almost grabbed the setup but didn't because I couldn't figure out if it'd work with my truck. I would have grabbed everything including the turn signal lever. I would have just let the lever flop around under the dash until I could figure out a better setup.

With that said, are most CC assemblies from old GM vehicles interchangeable with eachother? It doesn't need to be pretty, I just want it to work.
