GMC SRW one ton with Alaskan camper
SOLD......
For sale is my 1970 GMC 3500 custom, with utility bed and Alasken camper. In 1970 This truck, utility bed and camper was put together at the Alasken camper company (I believe in Ca) in 1970 for a documentary film maker to travel the west documenting native American Indians. The truck camper spent most of its years in California, sold to a guy in New Mexico, who since moved to Arizona. I purchased this truck last fall in Arizona. I flew in and drove home to south east Minnesota, around 1800 miles. Has a Chevy crate 350 engine installed in 2004 or 5. Now it has approximately 35,000 miles on the engine. The speedometer reads 45.500. I would srongly presume it has been rolled over. Has the granny 4 speed manual transmission. This truck also has a single wheel rear-axel with a Detroit locker differential. Not the typical dual wheels like on the one ton trucks. 133 inch wheel base I will describe the good and bad about the current condition of the truck the best I can. THE GOOD-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ Has a strong running chevy crate 350 engine with low miles. Built around 2004 I had an HEI distributor installed along with plug wires and new spark plugs. All the sheet metal is rust free including under the cab, rockers, cab supports, fender cups, and the frame. The utility bed is like it was built 2 years ago, tight hinges and locking hardware, no rust, not even inside the compartments. The tires are Toyo open country A/T LT 235/85 R16 load range E installed a couple years ago with about 4 thousand miles on them. The no spin rear axle works like it's suppose to with no vibration or noises. Has power steering and brakes, all work very good. The air conditioning has been converted to 134a Has an auxiliaryfuel tank in the rear between the frame rails. Has seatbelts for 3 people. This camper is very compact but has a lot of storage. This truck camper combo is very unique, well thought out and built very well. I believe the Alaskan Camper is all original except for a few patch plywood panels in both front top corners. THE, NOT SO BAD_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_-_ Driving back from AZ, I had fuel delivery problems due to fine rust particals in the fuel tank plugging up the fuel filters. I changed the fuel filters several times on the road. It gave me no more trouble the last 500 miles. This summer I went on a 2 week camping trip with no problems. The interior of the truck is not original, the dash pad, door panels, the visors and the seat are reaplolstered in a red Velour material. The bench seat is more modern, almost like a high back buddy seat but without a storage compartment. The back rests also tilt forward. Although the seat is not OEM it is very comfortable. The windshield has a small leak on the bottom drivers side when it rains. The exhaust has one or maybe both manifolds donut gaskets leaking. I would want to replace the whole exhaust system with dual exhaust. The driver side vent window has a broke off spring loaded pivoting shaft on the bottom. The fan clutch is froze, locked up like a direct drive fan blade. I have a replacement fan clutch.--------------‐‐---------------------------------CLUTCH HAS BEEN REPLACED The heater controls and fan switch needs some attention. I haven't tried to diagnose what's going on there. The paint is fairly new, but it's like the old maaco paint job. There are a few small spots with rust bleeding through. All the trim, emblems and mirror holes are filled and painted over. The auxiliary fuel tank needs cleaning as it hasn't been used in a long time. I have not tried to use it. May just need rinsing out.??? It is currently bypassed and sealed up. The Norcold frigerator does not work on ac current or lp gas.??? The excellerator pump in the carb is seeping fuel. Just enough to let you know it needs attention. The driver side low beem headlight shines down 7 or 8 feet in front of the truck. I tried adjusting it up and the lamp bucket just fell out. I haven't tried to figure out what's going on with the mounting of the lamps. I should mention, on the trip from AZ, I had to add 1and 1/4 quarts of engine oil. I did find a few small puddles of oil on the black top directly under the rear of the engine. I checked for puddles at every stop the whole trip. I'm just guessing, the rear main seal may have gotten a little hard from sitting. The puddles got smaller as the miles went up, by the time that I got home it was cleared up, no puddles. I am the 3rd owner and am trying to honestly describe this truck the best I can, from what I was told from the previous owner and from what I have learned on my own. Most of the problems are minor but worth mentioning. I'm asking 14500.00 OBO $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$ thank you for viewingn my ad. I welcome any qestions or comments, good or bad, no problem. I can also take pictures of any part of the truck you request, camper or utility bed. I will also add/edit any information that I missed or learn about. Thanks, Dan. Call me 507 458 1699
