Tips on installing an ignition switch!

Thank goes out to Bandit 130, geezer#99, and Dead Parrot for responded to my previous post about my truck dying intimately without any warning. I am siding with Dead Parrot. I am thinking it is my old ignition switch that is mounted on top of the column.

Will someone clarify where the slider hole on the ignition switch needs to be before placing it over the actuator rod?
As I understand, place the slider bar in the ignition switch all the way to the right into the accessory position. Hold the key in the accessory position then drop the hole in the slide bar over the rod so both the ignition switch and the key are in accessory mode before tightening the bolts holding the ignition switch? Is this correct? Thanks.

Thanks
