Questions from new member

Hello all, I just bought my 86 C-10 last week and it's an awesome truck in my opinion. I do have some questions though since I've never owned one of these before.
First off, my experience with TH350 is limited, and the speedometer is way off. I need to change the speedo gear out, do I also have to work inside the tranny? The truck has 3:73's with a 28 inch tire.
I'm also looking to put the truck on a diet, it currently has a rollpan but I'd like to really lighten it up if possible without going majorly overboard with expensive parts. Some would be ok though, like a lighter hood, suspention, etc... any suggestions?
This truck will see frequent trips to the dragstrip.
Also should I look into a fuel cell? The origional tanks been patched and the gas guage doesn't work either.
Thanks in advance for any help! Oh yea, where's the best place to get aftermarket parts for these trucks?
