No front brakes

Driving a 72 C10 with stock front disc brakes and drum rears. Haven't changed the front pads for years so I decided to do just that. When I pulled off the pads they looked new with no wear. The piston was still pushed in like I would have done before installing new pads. This is both front brake sides. Apparently I've only been stopping on the rear all these years. What should I be looking for?
Another note. No brake light is coming on. Checked brake light switch and it's working working properly. All panel bulbs new. Both front sides have the same symptoms so I would think it's either the master cylinder or combination/proportioning valve. Proportioning valve is centered. Guess I'll change both so I only have to bleed once.
