There are very good ideas above.

I am not saying to do this but just got me thinking about what I have on my 59. I converted my brake to top swinging with the master cylinder on the firewall. I now run a column shift automatic. I just let the clutch pedal drop to the floor but is still there under the carpet and could be used. The master cylinder and underneath brake pedal are gone. I kept my hand brake.

I could have swung both from top if I knew I was staying manual.
