Dually wheels - WTF is going on? Why can’t I find correct wheels?
So maybe I’m just an idiot with limited dually wheel experience, but I’m a little frustrated. I have a 1974 C30 3+3 Dually. It has the original 16” split ring wheels in the rear, one 16.5” up front, and one obviously newer 16” on the other front. Everything’s mismatched and I can’t use the split rings anyway, so I want to find a newer set of 16” stock Dually wheels. I know they need to be 73-00, GM wheels only (4.56” center). I have verified that I have 9/16 lugs at all four hubs on the truck. I have verified that my old wheels have 9/16 lug holes.
What I’m running into is all I can find are dually wheels with 5/8 lug holes. First, I checked a 1987-ish G30 van based motorhome. I realized this when I removed the first wheel and found my old wheels would not go back on, it actually had 5/8” studs. I tried a 1982 Chevy dually, and found 5/8 lug hole wheels on that too, but the axles had 9/16 studs. I have one more Chevy motorhome left to look at and I’m out of options to source replacement wheels from. For some reason stock dually wheels don’t exist here. Is it normal for Chevy dually wheels to have a significantly larger lug hole than the lug stud size is? I realize these are hubcentric, but that much movement on the lugs doesn’t sit right with me.
