long bed to short bed

I have a 69 CST longbed truck. I have a shortbed frame and everything and i want to cut apart my longbed and make it into a shortbed. I have seen this done before and I think it is the best option for me right now because of lack of funds. What I need to know is the lengths of the bed in front and behind the wheel. I'm hoping that I only have to cut out in the front of the wheel. If you have any knowledge of this or any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it.
Thanks
David
