Another windshield question

The lip on the cab around the windshield opening is made up of 2 pieces - the outer and the inner. There are a few spots where these 2 pieces aren't tight together. There are gaps between them. Is this okay? Don't want to paint and then find out they have to be crimped together somehow before the new window and trim can be installed.
How would you do that, anyway? Vice grips?
Thanks
