Dumb Question

This is a very dumb question...and I am sorry. I was afraid to even ask, but I know if I don't ask, I will never know.

What is the difference between a long block motor and a short block.

There is a guy locally with a 2004R that I can get for 50 bucks...needs rebuild
and a guy with a 327 "longblock" for $250....Which means I would have rnning gear for 300 buckaroonies...

but when it says longblock...what exactly does that mean...I suppose that anything can be "fabbed" to fit...but I just don't know. <shrug>

Don't laugh too hard when you read my question...be easy on me
