Hate to start a political thread out of this but don't blame it all on the unions. If not for the union labor movement YEARS ago the forty hour work week norm would not exist. Neither would paid vacation, sickleave, medical coverage, retirement, ad infanitum. And let us not forget safety regulations covering workers. The real culprit here is the fact that our standard of living in this country is or HAS been higher than many of the over seas countries that we export to. American labor can not compete with over seas labor when you factor in requirements from OSHA, EPA, Government requirements plus the cost of wages, retirement, medical/dental plus the over inflated CEO salaries, bonuses and stock options. This problem has been building for years and has reared it's ugly head in all facets of American manufacturing.
American labor can compete with any overseas labor when it comes to quality, production, and invention. When you can no longer buy an American made product give some thought to the fact that this country invented the Video Tape Recorder, try and buy one made in the USA ! Pardon the rant here but don't put all the fault on the "unions"
