Got the frame painted!!!! (pics)

OK, progress has officially began!!!! I got the frame, trailing arms, and the rear body mounts painted tonight. Used Nasson chassis black paint. Shoots real easy.

I already have the rear end painted, and the front end touched up. I hope tomorrow night I can get the running gear in place!!!!

Thanks for the comments everyone! I've gotta watch myself though, I'm so excited about working on her again that I need to control my posts! I don't want to start new threads like "I got the right rear coil spring installed!" and "Check out this bolt I put in last night!".

Yeah, I'm excited

I rolled mine around Tuesday, does that count? LOL

Seriously, finally got the garage space rebuilt so I could get my truck out of the bodyshop into the garage. Now I can get to work putting everything together!

Pics look great, keep up the good work and have fun!

More pics!!

Got the rolling chassis assembled last night. Front end, rear end, and tranny crossmember. I have a little touch-up painting of the front crossmember near the upper control arm mounting area, and paint the drop spindles (I forgot to do that the first time around!). A little dirty in there from sitting all summer. Should have the new wheels for the rear by the end of next week. Then I will rebuild the rear end (now that all the parts showed up) and get the new cover on it, new brake lines, and run a new fuel line to the rear.

When I first rebuilt the truck, when it was a LWB, it was lowered 2.5" in the front (ECE spindles), and a total of 4.5"" in the rear (3" ECE springs and 1.5" lowering blocks). I am going to wait and see how it sets as a SWB. I might replace the stock heigth springs in the front with 1.5" lowering springs for a total of 4", and replace the rears with 5" springs then play with blocks to get it right where I want it.

I had also rebuilt the front end with new ball joints, control arm bushings and shafts, spindles, rotors and calipers, and added a sway bar. Everything but the tie rods because there was almost no play in them. But at this point, I am gonna replace them too. Just as well! The rear end will get new axle bearings and seals, and all new brake components. The rear trailing arms were reinforced and new bushing installed. Plus I replaced the adjustable trac-bar with ECE's Super Trac-bar, the longer one.

Kinda sucks, the current lowering springs only have about 200 miles on them! Someone is gonna get a good deal on lowering springs if I change them out!

Thanks for the great comments! Feels great to get back to work on this truck after letting it sit all summer.

TH-350. The cross member is from ECE. Had I know the measurements or at least the general configuration, I could have easily made one. But the price wasn't bad, and other than a little trimming to fit around the welds from shortening the frame. it slipped right in. Nice quality peice, and the exhaust will run over the top of it.

I cut some discs out of 1/4" plate that are 3 1/2" I.D., then cleaned them up on the lathe. I used them as a guide for where I wanted to cut. Then I tacked the discs in place, then use the plasma cutter to cut the holes. I then finished welding them in place.

It's 30' x 40' with 10' walls. My only regret was that I didn't go with 14' walls or taller so that I could put in a lift.
