PB Booster color...
Hi all. My brake booster is currently light metal colored/silvery and rust. I want to clean it up and paint it, but what color will look close to original? I see Eastwood sells metal clone colors, but which one do I need? What do you guys use?
Thanks.

I thought that the brake booster's original color was black. Maybe a flat black but i'm not too sure.

It was cad plated gold? Eastwood sells that fake cad paint, maybe I should try. Does CAD fall off over time? My booster is all dull gray now

According to a resto book a buddy just lent me, there were 2 boosters used, one black and one gold, so you were right, Larry.

I wonder if maybe the gold was used specifically for the 68 for the golden anniversary or was the color used in multiple years. Just curious....
and thanks for the info HeavyD.

One color was for Bendix boosters and the other color was for Delco Moraine units.

Bendix black, delco cadnium plated- eastwood stuff ok but not exact. I used it on my frameoff on my 71 Super, but now wish I had saved and bought the replated unit. In any case the paint is ok but if the option is available replate or buy replated- the paint just can't match correct. JMO. Harold

We paint the 4x4 boosters black and the 2wd detail gray, (from Eastwood).
Their cad paint kit is fairly expensive and we like the look of detail gray. Here is what the gray booster looks like. Jim |

Hmmm...think I will pick up a can of detail gray. Did you take the booster all apart to clean/paint the housing? Is a difficult piece to reassemble? I am trying to stainless bolts wherever I can and see that the bolts holding the booster to the bracket on yours look pretty good.
Thanks.

drifting a little off subject
When repainting boosters do you guys install new backside and front rubber seals? Also the firewall boot. I haven't seen the seals in any of the catalogs.

My rubber that goes over the rod is totally destroyed, and I also cannot find a replacement in a catalogue. The little round rubber grommet that connects the (vacuum?) hose that goes to the engine was ripped, and I had to pay 15 bucks Canadian for it. I am not cheap, but geez its only a tiny rubber grommet!
