anyone elses kids get growly when you work on "thier" truck?

Last night i took the front clip off the truck while my 2 year old son was at his grandma's place.....he came home and had a fit....."brokeded"......and today he watched from the window while I pulled the cab off...."uh-oh!!!.....oh no!!!......brokeded!!!!!....DADDY!!!!..........he's pretty mad at me right now....I guess kid's just don't understand sometimes. Also, when he came out of the house yesterday and wanted in the pickup, the first thing he noticed was the missing seat, carpet and fuel tank.......he just growled....kinda cute...i hope he still likes this truck when he is old enough to drive it.....right now, i think he likes it as much as i do, maybe more.

aww. well you messed up his play toy, now he cant go riding in it but i'm sure he'll be very happy and proud of you when you fix it. sounds like great memories there, definately something to look back on and smile

Same for me, except my kids get real cheesed when the truck doen't run for a while. Our suburban has been having battery draining issues for a bit (I think I fixed it). My daugters always jump into the ratty interior and want to ride in it, rather than our newer Subaru. When I tell them that it doesn't work, they ain't happy until they see me under the hood.

hmmm.. haven't had that happen yet with my 7 or 10 year old, but then again, I've only had the truck for 3 weeks. Already the youngest always asks if we can take ol'yeller instead of the van or my commuting car. Wonder what will happen when I tear it apart this fall?.....

My 2nd oldest gets really upset when I talk about selling the 2wd Balzer. She has really become attached to it. Had a for sale sign in it one time, she took it out that nite. Kinda makes me proud though. All of my kids have an appreciation for classic cars though, as I have always had something like that around.

our 3 yr old son is the same way with daddy's "broke" truck...he even fell asleep under it last week while helping daddy fix it....

My 9 year old daughter likes both my trucks but she has likes the 73 better than the 70 cuz it's orange and the 70 is black. she loves to go places in both of them cuz she can roll down the windows. my 70 has a/c but i have to work out the wiring part and see if it will blow cold air....

yup, i got a 2 year old bro and how much odes he love the sound of a nice exhaust, he can already tell the differances fromt he cars and who driving. and everytime he goes out side he has to jump into one of the truck to pretend he's driving. he hasn't seen britney before but somday he will. maybe when he dont need to use a baby seat.

My ten year old can wait to start taking down my K10, him and his 4 year old sister are waiting for me to die so they can get my 71. I tell them I am going to be like Willy the Wimp and be buried in it.

My Kids used to dig my trucks but now I think they're kind of embarassed by them and are always nagging for a new style car.
Pretty soon I'll have to drop them off six blocks from school. Is it wrong that I have no pity?

I sold my GMC to make room for my 72 shortbed. My wife told me that our 8 yr old grand daughter was crying when she came in Asked what was wrong, little one said "what are we going to ride in the parade"? You can tell I have a heavy duty hauler, right? TF

Have no kids yet, but my wife growls everytime I "waste" time and money on the truck! I think she looks at the body of the truck, and thinks it's a piece of $hit, so why bother! I slowly sneak in repairs and stuff, so I guess magically one day, it won't look so rough.

I can't talk about kids....but my dad I can talk about.

There are a lot of things he has never done like take out a steering column or replace the wood bed, so evertime I do stuff like that he always tells me that I'm gonna end up being a mechanic....Come on.....Im 22 and I'm trying to get a music ed degree, and really I don't do that much stuff to my truck....But hey I really wouldn't mind learning more mechanical stuff, body stuff isn't me, simple bondo filling and painting but nothing else.. It's great to know someone is proud of you and stuff you care about. I like my dads enthusiasm, and we both are worrying about our trucks right now....I'm glad we can relate on more stuff than just regular son & pop stuff. He always wants me to try to fix something on his truck, I don't have time with my truck and other things. Like he got some new doors and he wanted them stripped and primered, I didn't have time so the next weekend I show up and he's already done it....that was great!!!!! My brother is always like
"Man, your going to have a Bad-A$$ truck when it's done".

it kinda made me sad, but proud at the same time.....Coltin loves to go bounce in dad's pickup....I wish i'd had the camera handy when he looked inside it and found no interior....I'd have loved to have shown him the look on his face when he was about 16 or so!!!........Just the way he acted reminded me of how i felt when i saw my dad drive his 67 K-20 down from the pasture without a box on it.....i was p!ssed......then he made me madder yet and put a feedwagon box on it!!!!!!.....that was the first truck i ever drove and i was, and still am madly in love with that truck!!!......Pretty soon I get the pleasure of taking the gas axe to that nasty feedwagon box that is perched on the most badass truck i ever drove and putting a flatbed on it like God intended for it to have.

My son is 3 1/2 and he's the same way. I haven't done anything to it yet but when I do I think he'll be upset.

My soon to be 3 year-old daughter loves her blazer. Anytime we have to go somewhere she wants to take the green truck. It's only mostly green. I asked her what she thought about the green truck turning white. She got mad and said no! I'm currently working on a driver so I can take the blazer apart and not be so rushed. She won't like it being gone, but when it's done (Probably when she is 7 or 8) I think she'll like it.

When my girl was about 3-4 she got ticked off at me one day and blurted out - "Daddy- you love that stupid old truck more than you love me!!!"

Oh well, That comment helped me set my priorities straight.

Custom 68, and all other board members who get to include their kids in this great hobby, hats off to you all. Involvment with our kids is the #1 thing we can do to keep them on the right track. Makes me so damn sad when I see parents who don't get involved with their kids. They miss a lot!
