Question heater control replacement

What all is involved in changing a non A/C heater control? The weather here has gotten cold enough that I need to be able to stay warm in a leaky cab. I have another control but it looks to me like it would be hard to replace. Thanks.

2 large phillips headed screws on the bottom lip of the dash, push the controller in and pul it down. You may have to sit on the floor for this part, byut unplug the light, unplug the blower motor switch, diconnect (and don't confuse them) the cables...then put it all back together.
This is a good time to spray some PB Blaster in the cables, and on the lever pivot points since they like to bind and break off...which is probably why your heater controll has no levers now.

I would suggest getting a no-pop kit from one of the vendors. If memory serves they run around $30.00 or so and will solve the broken lever problem. The cables need lubing regularly though.I put mine in a drain pan of old oil for a couple of days. The no-pop kit will take a couple hours to install but has steel levers instead of the factory pot metal ones.

I just rebuilt my '71 heater control with the Never-Pop Lever Kit for Old Air Products. I paid $28.00 for it at the local swap meet. Very easy to install and now I can sit in the driver seat and control the heater settings.

1 word of caution when you screw it back down, On my 72 a white wire runs along the lip to the passenger door light switch. I pinched it one time and the lights came on, During the day I did not see them 6 hours later some kid is knocking on the door saying hey mister your lights are on in your truck. Luckily truck turned right over and did not have to jump it at 6:00am
