85 Chev dash pad replacement

How hard is it to replace the dash pad?

I have removed gauges/bezel etc before but never the dash pad.

Does anyone have a how too or could tell me where all the fasteners are?

you need to remove the gauge bezel, then the screws along the passenger side bottom of the dash, lift up on the dash and pull forward.

After removing the bezel, there are some screws across the bottom of the pad above the glove box and one on the end on the passenger side. Then it's just a matter of raising it up a tad and pulling it out. There are some clips on the bottom of the pad that fit into slots in the dash.

Pretty easy job.

OR you can cheat like gonna do and get a coverlay dash cap. Simply glues over the original pad and look good too.

Ya I have seen those, but I figure if Im gonna spend $75 I might as well go ahead and spend another $125 and do it right the first time. I have wasted more money in my life taking short cuts than I care to talk about.

No offense, its just murphys law works overtime on me.

The perforated part on my dash has a large hole in it, I actually found a lighter in there shortly after buying the truck, lol. I look forward to replacing mine one day.

Oh don't get me wrong, if we weren't poor poor poor fools id get a replacement. and mine is completely rotten, it has a roll-on cover thing and it looks horrid. I figure when i go off to college i might spring for that, assuming the coverlay doesn't satisfy me.

Oh dont get me wrong, I undertsand completely. I was just saying that with my luck, I would buy that cover....it wouldnt glue right or fit right and I would screw it up somehow and have to buy the full cover anyway....thats what I was referring to by wasting my money....I have bad luck sometimes with things like that
